The Great Bubble Barrier has found a way to prevent plastics from ending up in the oceans, without bothering ships and fish. The team developed a bubble barrier: a screen of air bubbles, which directs plastic waste to the side of the canal or river using the natural current and captures the plastic debris before it enters our oceans.

The Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge is an annual international competition that rewards startups from the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway or Great Britain that successfully combine sustainability, entrepreneurship, and creativity. Are you ready to accelerate your sustainable business (idea)? Apply by 15 April!
The Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge is one of the largest competitions in the field of sustainable entrepreneurship, created to promote the invention of great new products and services for a more sustainable planet. For this 15th anniversary edition, we are looking for sustainable innovations or solutions that consumers can relate to, which they can use in daily life or can be made into a consumer product.
SWEDISH ALGAE FACTORY

Swedish Algae Factory is the only company in the world that cultivates the microalgae group diatoms and sells their high-tech silica shells. These shells have unique light manipulating properties unmatched by synthetic materials that can be utilised to enhance the efficiency of solar panels by at least 4%. The material can also be used as a sustainable personal care ingredient. In the material's production process, carbon dioxide is absorbed instead of released. Customers that purchase this material will also contribute to reducing eutrophication and a healthier food supply chain by recycling the life-sustaining nutrients nitrogen and phosphorous.

An international jury will select one finalist per country in which a Postcode Lottery is operating. The finalists will receive:
- €1 million in prize money (winner receives €500,000, the runner-up will receive €200,000. The other three finalists will receive €100,000 each)

Criteria
Your solution/business (idea):
- Is something consumers can relate to, which they can use in daily life, or can be made into a consumer product.
- Contributes to a more sustainable planet
- Has a proven business plan or is ready for execution
- Is realisable within the next two years
- Is based in the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Germany, or Great Britain
