Starters4Communities connects young entrepreneurs
Starters4Communities is a network that inspires, enables and connects young people to start their own social enterprise. Amongst their diverse activities is an event series called Young Changemakers, which takes place every second Tuesday of the month at Impact Hub Amsterdam.
The theme of the most recent edition was newcomers and the Dutch. Starters4Communities brought people together to inspire each other and facilitate cultural exchange. During the evening 4 ambitious social enterprises – Rafiqi, weorganization, B’oost and Maex – got on stage, shared their stories, asked the audience to challenge their business models and invited refugees to join their initiatives.
Some of these budding impact-driven businesses were fact launched by former refugees, who now want to help advance strong and fast inclusion of newcomers. Ghida, the founder of Rafiqi, got off to a great thanks to a business coach who guided her shortly after she arrived to the Netherlands. She now her own company, supported by an online platform that matches refugees to people who can mentor them, and help them to further develop their careers and skills.
Global Shapers meet the Impact Hub Amsterdam community
On March 22, Ghida is organising the Global Shapers March Meeting: Shaping the refugee crisis. This event, which will take place at Impact Hub Amsterdam, aims to introduce the Amsterdam chapter of Global Shapers to the Hub community in order to explore potential synergies and collaboration opportunities. Like Starters4Communities, the Global Shapers Community – an initiative of the World Economic Forum – is a network developed and led by young people who are exceptional in their potential, achievements and drive to make a societal contribution.
During this event, Ghida will help organisations or initiatives developed by or for refugees to tackle some of the challenges they’re facing. Using the ‘Shape First’ method, groups of participants will brainstorm solutions to challenges such as scaling, finance and recruitment. Impact Hub members who work on social inclusion can join the brainstorming groups.
reThink refugees with Ashoka
At reThink refugees, a two-day event organised by our partner Ashoka Netherlands on 27 and 28 March in Den Haag, national and international problem solvers will join with civil society initiatives, NGOs, businesses, thought leaders, and government representatives to co-create innovative and systemic solutions with positive impact for refugees.
The focus on this event is on the needs of the refugees to fully participate in many aspects of Dutch society, including education and the labor market, and on finding systemic solutions for the obstacles currently faced by refugees.
Check the Impact Hub Amsterdam calendar for more exciting events, and come by the Hub to connect and co-create with like-minded entrepreneurs.
